Travel south of Omaha and discover the many attractions of Nebraska City and surrounding areas. This path, steeped in history and natural beauty, gives you plenty of choices when planning a day trip from Omaha.

History
This route will show you how Nebraska was settled . . . and what was here before humans. The Mayhew Cabin and Historical Village lets you walk back in time in a restored town. Learn the part this spot played as a stop on the Underground Railroad. At the Homestead National Monument of America near Beatrice, you’ll learn about the turning point that settled the Wild West. In Lincoln, be sure to stop by the University of Nebraska State Museum of Natural History to see some of the finest mammoth skeletons in the world.

Family Fun
A must-see on this route is the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and Arboretum in Nebraska City. The National Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Adventure at Arbor Day Farm is also a big treat for kids and adults alike. At Indian Cave State Park, the whole family will enjoy 3,500 acres along the Missouri River that are perfect for camping, hiking, picnicking, and more. Don’t forget to stop at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo.
