2001 AJ Higgins Rd
2001 A.J. Higgins Rd in Pawnee Park - Featuring a full-size steel waterline replica of a LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel), the "Higgins Boat" serves as the centerpiece for the monument. This memorial is dedicated to native son, Andrew Jackson Higgins, designer and builder of the boats and all members of the armed forces. The Memorial Walk is the shape of the Earth and contains brass stars holding sand samples from D-Day beaches where these boats landed. A memorial wall, built with 1,000 engraved bricks, provides the backdrop. All 50 state flags are flown. Bronze eagle with a 7-ft wing span sits atop steel from the World Trade Center.
